Welcome back to the inner thoughts and ramblings of my mind! For those of you who are regulars, thank you! Also a huge welcome if your stumbling across me for the first time.
For those of you who follow me in social media, you will know we are in the middle of a huge move. Not only are we moving homes but we are also transitioning out of the defence. How scary?!?
Because our lives are being backed into plastic bags and boxes i have been way too busy to focus on blogging. So in comes the idea of my top three tips to packing with an overly excited toddler and teething baby! These tips are in no way supposed to be useful. Just my failing at getting things done.
Tip One - encourage the toddler to help.. not destroy!
One thing that I am grateful for in this move, is my mum taking care of Xavier so as I can get the bulk of it done without his help. She’s a blessing and it helps that Xavier loves spending time with her (as well as my dad and awesome younger brother).
However whilst he was still here it was easier to work with him, rather than against him. We would blast the wiggles and use it as a way to teach him that his toys belong INSIDE the toy box. Who am I kidding, that ones a lost cause.
Tip Two - Pack all you will need through the transition into one bag, the rest in boxes.
If you know me, and I mean really know me.. you will know I have a billion bags, Growing up my dad called me “the bag lady”.I pack overly stupid amounts of clothes even for a one night stay. So it’s been hard for me to actually pack and not just want to keep everything out and claim “I will need this”. Instead I picked out one suitcase and have put inside it all I will need for the kids and I in the next week. Everything else is now being packed to make the move.
Tip Three - Pack their favourite items whilst they sleep.
Remember tip one where I said use the toddler to help you?! Yep well throw that advice out the window. Pack the toys whilst they sleep, actually pack EVERYTHING whilst they sleep. Having them awake just let’s then trail behind you unpacking the item you just moved like it was the worlds best action figure.
Moral of the story?! I’m exhausted, tired and running out of steam. Only a few more days and we will be into our new home, time to unpack and settle into our new lives.
By next week I am hoping to be getting unpacked and settling into our new routine.
